Para saksi mengatakan, pria ini bergulat dengan hiu tersebut selama lima menit. Kemudian air berubah menjadi merah. Insiden ini menjadi kejadian keenam yang hiu menimbulkan serangan fatal selama lima tahun terakhir sejak 2007 di pantai yang terletak di Samudera Hindia, di pinggiran Provinsi Eastern Cape, Afrika Selatan.

September 2011, warga Inggris bernama Michael Cohen (47) kehilangan kakinya setelah digigit hiu di pantai itu. Ahli selancar lokal Michael Gatcke mengatakan, “Pada 15 Januari 2011, terjadi serangan fatal dan kini terulang lagi di saat yang sama”.

Karena banyaknya rangkaian serangan mematikan ini, para ahli pun kini menyebut pantai ini sebagai pantai paling berbahaya di dunia ,seperti dikutip DM.
